La Tzoumaz is located in the canton of Valais, the next village over from Nendaz. La Tzoumaz means “to take a break” – which is the specific goal of its many annual visitors, who enjoy pristine skiing, hiking, mountain biking, dining and other holiday activities in and around this Four Valleys gem.

 

Appealing to families with a quieter atmosphere than surrounding resort areas, La Tzoumaz has a local community of just over 300 and is popular with British, German and Dutch visitors as well as Swiss nationals.

 

For winter sports lovers, La Tzoumaz offers plentiful ski tow, chair lift and cable car access to over 400 km of magnificent ski runs throughout the Four Valleys area, as well as children’s ski lifts, a natural ice rink and the longest toboggan run in western Switzerland. Tobogganing events are held on Friday and Saturday full moon evenings during January, February and March, including a fondue at the mountain restaurant in Savoleyres.

La Tzoumaz is a perfect starting point in summer for relaxing treks through alpine forests, beautiful meadows sprinkled with wildflowers and mountain streams. There is also river fishing, fishing in the Lac des Vaux, mountain biking, paragliding, tennis, golf and the thermal baths at nearby Saillon and Lavey with indoor and outdoor hot baths, swimming pools, Jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas.

 

The village has several traditional restaurants and bars as well as two night clubs open in the high season.

La Tzoumaz is less than two hours drive from Geneva airport, and only a 20 minute drive from Sion or Martigny. From the airport, you can rent a car (www.carhiresearch.co.uk/loc/Switzerland/Geneva-Airport.html) or for about £40 take a train from the airport to Sion and then a local train to Riddes or take the local bus (click here for times). If you are driving from the airport, turn left onto the motorway, and follow the green signs for Lausanne (A1, E25, E62). Stay on the motorway, following signs for Simplon (A9). Take junction 24 for Riddes. Follow signs for La Tzoumaz. This will be a mountain road for the next 15 km. As you enter La Tzoumaz, you will see the main lift (telecabine), on the right.
