- Verbier Location and History
- Verbier is situated in the
southwestern part of Switzerland in the canton of the 4 Valleys. It
shares a western border with France and a southern border with Italy.
- From mountain biking, hiking
and golf in summer to world class skiing in winter, Verbier is a holiday
paradise with breathtaking year-round vistas, après ski relaxation
and excellent dining and entertainment venues.
- This charming wooden chalet
resort village is situated high up on a mountainside at an altitude of
1500 meters. It was founded at the turn of the 20th century.
In 1925, a group of men hiked up 15 km to Sembrancher in order to ski
back down. In 1946, the first lift was installed and over the next 10
years, Verbier grew as a holiday destination. In 1960, following the
ski boom, it turned into the sports mecca it is known as today. Although
Verbier is now a lively resort, visitors can still experience old world
traditions such as cheese making, or see some local "Tomme"
home on a walking trip through the village.
